Infopoint Georgswerder - the Energy mountain

A project of the IBA Hamburg

The Energy mountain, a Project of the IBA Hamburg, illustrates how an area used in the past as landfill site, which has been contaminated by waste can be a symbol for renewable energy. An Energy mountain combining different sustainable technologies is being constructed which will also offers a panoramic view on the harbour and the Michel of Hamburg.

Wind energy plants instead of landfill site
Part of the energy for the Elb isle is now produced through wind energy plants and photovoltaics on this mountain. IBA Hamburg takes the chance to make this 40 metre high mountain with its spectacular view accessible to the public.

An Information centre due to open in summer 2011 will inform about the problematic history of the landfill site, the handling with this problematic past and its potential for the generation of renewable energy. The information centre will be a place of learning and experiencing with many interactive elements.

The interactive exhibition provides insights into the making of the Energy mountain and vititors are invited to exciting tours at the construction site.
