Planting started in the context of "My Tree – My City" campaign
State government is committing explicitly to the great citizens campain under the Green Capital.
They can be seen now anywhere between Duvenstedt and Neugraben, Blankenese and Billstedt: hoop guards and tree stakes for Hamburgs new street trees. The major tree planting of the "My Tree – My City" campaign starts today. And what nobody expected to happen so quickly: a few months after the start of the campaign the sum of donor funds has reached 250.000 Euro. The eleven trees, with which the Hamburg government shows in front of the city hall, were the first placed into the soil in the context of "My Tree – My City".
Therefore, with the release of October 25th 511 additional trees will be planted.
Because the City of Hamburg gives for each tree that reached donations of 500Euro, the same amount on top to cover the average planting costs of 1000 Euro per tree, including the preparation of planting pit, the planting itself and the subsequent care. The city is also setting a good example and pays for another 2011 new trees in the year of the Green Capital. Also, the Mayor and the Senators have selected eleven own trees, that will be placed into the soil all over the city in the coming weeks.
Jutta Blankau, Senator for Urban Development and Environment: "Better than with „My Tree – My City" you cannot make clear the importance of urban evironmental protection in the Green Capital year. The great generosity shows that we have met a nerve in terms of citizen participation. In addition, it is our goal to link environmental protection to social justice: The city is planting trees especially where resdents have little or no money left for tree donations.“
As the planting of all trees on the map have been been fully financed, you can no longer donate to these trees. At the moment more places are being considered and future donations will benefit the planting of those trees. All previously donors will be listed on a plaque at the end of the campaign. |
