The use and conservation of sustainable resources such as water, soil and air as well as increased recycling and the avoidance of waste play important roles in environmental protection and successful economies.

Environmental Partnerships
Hamburg is a pioneer in the promotion of sustainable, resource and economic management. Because of this, the city engaged in the Hamburg Environmental Partnership, an alliance between the Senate and Hamburg's economy, promoting increased environmental protection. Due the partnership over 1,500 companies with voluntary environmental benefits, including 600 environmental partners, are expected to grow.
